that when we bump a thread we remove the bump post afterwards. It´s nothing tedious it´s just an edit. That way we keep the important threads (best tip, techie etc.) small (well smaller lol :D ) and to the point. It might help to get answers quicker when you don´t need to browse through a page half filled with bumps. What do you think? Oooh I see the email notification is back up. That deserves a lol.

It sounds good to me.... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon14.gif

(If I ever get the chance to bump something. I will remember that.)

I'll buy that... I'm the last one to bump a thread just below here, so let me delete my bump and see where it goes.

Bungleau 07-22-2002 01:21 AM

Okay, I deleted my bump and it stayed put. But the date on the thread reverted... I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it's still alive.

Another alternative I considered was editing a bump instead of re-bumping. An edit should update the timestamp, and keep it current. As long as there's only one bumper active, it should be good.

WillowIX 07-22-2002 05:53 AM

Yes that´s an alternative Bungleau. Have you tried it? But then it can be hard to have one person be responsible for a thread. I mean to get the info out so everybody´s not still bumping it. :D

Bungleau 07-22-2002 11:34 AM

Hmmm... just tried it with the Best Tips thread, and it didn't move up at all. So editing one's bumps may not actually work. Bummer.

And I agree, BTW -- I would not want to be the person responsible for keeping a particular post bumped. My thought was that if it were a post I had already bumped, I might be able to keep it current without further ado.

I think your suggestion of removing one's bumps after the bump has taken would be best.

That is, unless we can revive the sticky posts we used to have. Wyv, do you know anything more about that?

WillowIX 07-22-2002 12:31 PM

Well I read Ziroc´s post about turning off the search feature. In it he also said that sticky posts would be up when the search upgrade was completed. It´s been said before though lol, so we´ll have to wait and see. :D Another thought, do you think we ought to put up a thread with some "suggestions", like one sig/thread. We could ask Wyv to formulate some words about such things... Then we wouldn´t have to post that every now and again. :D

WillowIX 07-22-2002 12:33 PM

Wyv and packrat? I´m gonna bump the best tip thread then remove the bump post. Can you check if your post indicators show if there´s a new post?

Wyvern 07-22-2002 12:35 PM

I have tried on some of the more popular threads to remove previous "bump" posts. You need to keep the last "bump" to move it to the top of the list but old "bumps" are no longer needed. I can't even count the number of these I have removed from threads such as Best Tips and Saz' Techie (or Giggling So Hard or the Bumble Thread) :D

Thanks for looking out for these details! It is a great joy to me everyday to come here and find questions have been answered and the nice friendly atmosphere of our forum is still going strong! You're a wonderful bunch!! :D

Wyv

(Red is here on purpose! Thumbs up!)

Ya I will do that too. It shouldn't be that hard to remeber.
