. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . First of all, you should know that you'll be facing 4 enemies in there, not only Sarevok. Although you only have to kill him to finish the game. If you are going to get XP cap remover than you may as well kill the others: Angelo - fighter/mage, 9800 exp Tazok - fighter, 4000 exp Semaj - mage (abjurationist), 3000 exp You can use the 'lure' tactic. Keep your party away from the throne and send only one of your characters towards it. When one of the enemies sees your character, quickly pull him back to your main group and then kill that enemy (who will probably follow the NPC he saw) Note that Semaj will teleport behind you using dimension door. You may as well stock up on as many Monster Summoning scrolls and wands. Then, have your mage cast Monster Summoning on the throne and go a bit forward that Sarevok can see you. After the conversation, attack Saverok with arrows/bolts/bullets and spells. Summoned monsters will keep him busy. There is one more thing I found out. You can cast fireball/cloudkill/stinking cloud/web on the throne as much as you want and Sarevok won't attack you (unless you already talked to him). He'll just stay there and take damage. But you have to be careful that he doesn't see you. If he does he'll start a conversation and he'll attack. I don't know if TotSC fixes this. The conversation will begin even if you approach the throne with your thief (ranger) in stealth mode. [ 04-10-2003, 06:22 AM: Message edited by: Flaming Fist Enforcer ] |
Start dialogue with Sarevok. Don't forget to LOAD the area with your summons.
The point is, you want to kill Sarevok and to complete the game he's the ONLY one you need to kill. If his goons see you and follow you take him out first while Sarevok is still distracted. Keep summoning more critters as he's a strong fighter and will wipe the floor with them quite easily. Don't forget magic missile, it works on him and keep firing these to speed up the process. He's an easy opponent that way really. Good luck! |
As you guys have indicated, two basic rules apply to this fight with Sarevok just the same as most of the other big fights. Firstly split up the enemy and fight them one at a time. Secondly keep the Bad Guys busy while you shoot at them from distance. Keeping Sarevok busy is fairly simple, using lots of summoning works well, as does running around in the Boots of Seed. For a bit of a change I had my Bard stand in the middle of the room (playing her song), while protected by several Mirror Image spells, that keep Sarevok in one place while I shot him.
So come on people, has anyone out there found a clever or interesting way to do this fight without resorting to good old arrows and missiles. |

In my last game of BG1, I was a (hacked but still completely fair) Half-Orc Barbarian. Lots of hitpoints, but MAN did my AC suck. Anyway, for the final battle, we did the following:
- - - - - - - - - - Traditional "Send a Stealthed Thief up to Sarevok to make Semaj teleport out to us," followed by "Beat the crap out of Semaj and laugh at him for being such an idiot," then "From just out of their sight range, Dispel Tazok's and Angelo's Invisibility, then fill the area with Stinking Cloud, Web and Cloudkill, followed by lots of Fireballs." This left only Sarevok, who was completely Uninjured, thanks to his Magic Resistance. Grint, my hearty Half-Orc, drank just about every buffing Potion he had, and then charged in, battle-cry first. The rest of the party sat around nibbling scones while Bro & I went toe-to-toe, bashing the hell out of each other. I had more than 1/2 my hitpoints left when the big S hit the floor. |
I would love to play BG1 with a barbarian... Tell you what, Six. Come over, and teach me how to hack one in. The beer and pizza is on me.

I don't know, Flaming Fist Enforcer, the Boots of seed could be useful. Let's say if they maybe cast entangle wherever you walk?(okay so such an item would probably be considered uber, but we could always add a speed reduction to account for the Boots need to plant the magic seed into the ground. :). okay maybe not entangle wherever you step, but perhaps the ability to cast it once or twice a day?

Ok, I'll try to make such an item. My brother is currently working on that so I'll ask him to help a bit. You will be able to download that (and all other items) on his homepage. You can find the link if you check his profile.

1) Start with a Human Fighter 2) Gatekeeper him/her +1 to STR and CON, and -1 to INT and CHA 3) While you're there, give him 2 extra hitpoints as well 4) Since Humans and Half-Orcs have exactly the same Saving Throws, you don't need to make any changes there 5) Once you're back in the game, you must police yourself: Do not put more than 2 points into any weapon, and never wear any armor heavier than Splint Mail. 6) Every time you Level Up, hack yourself another 2 hitpoints. |
