Think this is the best place to ask - sorry if its not. I bought a new graphics card, an SiS 315i with 32mb capability, miles better than my old 4mb one, but now BG won't play! It's well annoying - IWD & BG2 play fine, but not the original, which I want to get through before going on to BG2.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but no luck. Does anyone have any advice / pointers / miracles please? Cheers guys and gals - I want to get back on track with my Paladin who was getting close to the great city itself! [ 03-30-2003, 01:04 PM: Message edited by: Duke Hereward ] |
I never did like SiS. But it should be able to run BG. Do you have the latest drivers for it? If not, try installing them.

did you check configure on the BG-1 game it runs best on 640 X 480 and will run on 600 X 800 but it will not to run on 1024 X 768 that may be your problem.
my graphic accelerator runs at 128 MB and BG-1 runs fine but I had to set the screen at 600 X 800 while playing BG-1 or I got an error message. [ 03-30-2003, 02:04 PM: Message edited by: TheCrimsomBlade ] |

Do you mean that Windows screen resolution cannot be 1024*768? Mine is, and it works. |
Mines works under XP at 1024*768. If anyones hvaing trouble at that resolution, its likely driver troubles. BG1 has to switch graphics modes anyway, what the desktop setting was to begin with shouldnt matter.

Games that run on lower resolutions will not "try" to run on higher ones. They will simply switch to the lower settings for the duration that the game is on screen, and switch back when either you exit the game, or you minimize the game screen.

Thanks for all the guidance - finally got fed up with my SiS and went out and bought a new card yesterday! At least the thing works now, though my pally is actually only outside the Cloakwood mines, not near BG itself :-(
BTW - call me dumb, but how do I go about changing the resolution of the game, or can't I? Also can I play it in a window on my desktop or does it have to be full screen? Cheers |
Unfortunately, you can't change your resolution. As for playing in the windowed mode go to: OPTIONS --> GRAPHICS and uncheck the 'FULL SCREEN' button.
