In case you didn't see it above:
SPOILERS (including BG2 spoilers): > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Excerpt from my post on BG2 board: In fact, a cool mod for BG1 would be to allow the races/classes/kits from BG2 (I don't know if anyone ever did that). It would be cool to be able to start out as a sorcerer, barbarian (how can you be a barbarian if you grew up in Candlekeep?), or one of the kits (the shapechanging abilities of the Avenger or Shapeshifter, though not achieved until a little later in BG1, would be nice in those games). Then you could truly take one character all the way through the entire game without ever having to "upgrade" your character when you hit BG2. Has anyone worked on this at all? Is it possible? It would encourage people to go back and play through the whole saga from the beginning. I don't pretend to know much about programming, so I'm probably the last one you would want to do this. |
Its possible and in progress, but not in the way you mean.
There is no way to put the BG2 kits into BG1. BG1 has no kit support code, I doubt it has all the effects needed, and so on. What is possible is to move the BG1 content into BG2, which allows you to play BG1 in high res, with tab highlighting, in one complete continuous adventure all the way to the ToB final battle. |

only one real problem is when you start BGII( S-P-O-I-L-E-R ahead )
> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BG-1 and the BG-II GAME START don't read if you haven't played BGII or finished bg 1!! > when you start BGII there are a number of NPC's in the Dungeon prison that were caught with you by Irenicus, that means that you would need to have Imoen, Minsc, Jaheira and Khalid alive in your party up to and after you Kill Sarevok. You would also have to make sure that Montaron and Xzar remain alive when they are removed from the party. Other wise the story wouldn't make any sense when you found Xzar and Montaron later in the game if they were both dead in the BG-1 portion of the Game. They both died in my game. In other words you would end up doing alot of work to make everything fall into place. I'm sure there are other NPC's that may have died in BG-1 and that became reserected in BG-II that would make combining the two games together almost impossiable. I believe that is why Black Isle and company made BG-II the way they did. |
pretty much any npc who carryovers you can say something like "aren't you dead?" they almost always respond w/ something like "surely you know a simple russurection can take care of that little inconvience"

Something that allows the conversion to go smoother than, "hey, didn't I dump you and your husband weeks ago when I found out how lousy the two of you are. And where is Ajantis? He was with me when I left Baldur's Gate..."). |
A most orgasmic idea! Said mod would seriously increase the replay value of this game.

This is the thread where its being discussed:
http://www.teambg.net/forum/?board=2...;threadid=6635 It does of course have BG1 and BG2 spoilers in it. As does the remainder of this post. Im not trawling through 10 pages again, but IIRC, its going to be arranged so that after the final BG1 battle, the needed characters end up in the area so when you get kidnapped, things work out. A better solution would be to generalise irenicus dungeon so that whatever party you have, there are scripts and dialogues to cover it. In theory, any BG1 NPC could then be taken into SoA. But to do that properly would be an immense task - all BG2 NPCs have loads of dialogues and sidequests, making BG1 characters fit in would require a lot of work. So itll probably never happen. |
