I got the virual dub thing and fixed the files but now when I hold my cursor over some buildings in town I get the red circle with the line through it and nothing happens when I click there.

Is there any further things I could do? This is a much faster / superior system than my other and I'd really like to play it here.

Does the patch address this at all?

Errmmm... I assume you're clicking on valid buildings, right? 'Cause you can't access some of the buildings. I guess they're just window dressing.

The patch doesn't address this, AFAIK. Have you reviewed your steps with virtualdub to make sure all file names were renamed back to the right things?

I've now managed to get playing Under XP sorted out for me. I converted the townmask avi's into old format avi's and then on the deep6.exe program i selected properties and then the compatiblity tab and told it to run in windows 95 emulation. Seems to work fine for me now.

I did have a problem also due to a bit of dirt on the Install CD which didnt throw up an error during the install but seemed to corrupt a couple of files. (But it told me the file wasnt valid so i was able to copy files back from the Install CD.

i seem to be having the same problem under win2k. What exactly is this virual dub thing? I'm gonna try and run it under win95 emu and see if that works for me too. I notice that the characters cht faster.. They don't even let me read it. Like when I met that snake person going to the lake all i see is two likes of text Zoooming and BOOm its goes to the reply part.

--What exactly do you mean concerted in to old AVI format? You renamed them or did you reformat them in to some other format?

--One more thing..The A.I characters don't have any sounds.. Just text.. I looked in the second cd to see if the voice folder had been damaged but it seems fine. I even copyed them over to my computer to make sure the cd was ok.

Dvsjeo,

Virtualdub modifies the town .AVI files to be compatible with Windows 2000/XP. Some instructions are here:

http://www.volberding.com/WHints/WW-WinXP.htm

The town characters don't speak - only the NPCs and monsters outside the city gates do. Stange, but that's the way it was programmed.

Dvsjeo,

Boy, I wish I had your problem! On my system, the characters talk f*o*r*e*v*e*r!

If you're curious about what they said, you can click on the little skull in the bottom of the text box. It will expand and let you scroll up to see what's been said. Also handy for finding out why there's a colored face icon on your character in the middle of a fight (oh, so he's been diseased! I can fix that...).

That is wierd i play under windows exp try installing windows exp from windows 98 it worked for me because otherwise i wouldn't have Wxp

If you only knew Bungleau what a treat it is to have those NPC finish their speaches in 1 second, lmao!! Now if I only could make those shopkeepers talk a bit faster as well, lol! About win2k + xp, run this
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\regsvr32.exe c:\windows\apppatch\slayerui.dll"
(this one´s for win2k, don´t know where they are in winxp). Remake those AVI´s, make a shortcut on the desktop and run win98 compatability! And then of course SAVE VERY often!!!

Ohh and check Xignal´s site for more advise! That one´s here:

Okay - this may be a real outside possibility but worth mentioning.

Have you gone to the inn and picked up your characters??
