I killed the taranta queen.. No crystal of course. Now I can't get back across the bridge. Is there another way?

Did you look in all the chests in the area the you killed her.

It is in the area that she was

I searched every chest twice. I must be one of the oddball ones that have it in a different place. Is there another way to get back to the main chamber, or any tips for crossing the broken bridge to go back?

Is this the broken bridge across the lava? YOu can get back, you just have to do so carefully. Save your game before starting (if you have lava walk spell, that will be a big help). You're probably going to have to do a lot of "move close to the edge by looking down", look slightly up and run and jump at the same time to get to the next section. It's a real pain, but it can be done (I've done it often enough).
