if anyone could help please....
i'm having problems getting into a room in the serpent temple.....
in the room where there the steps are down to the library there is a path straight through which leads to a door with a grate/barrier that is down. across from that i can see a skull lever but i don't know where the switch/lever is to open that door to get in.

does anyone know where it is please? thank you

That grate only opens from the other side - using the skull lever that you can see. You'll need to traverse the lower elevator maze and meet Elyssa before you can reach that area.
