Is there any spot which documents what all items do?
ie alot I can work out but some I can't eg sapping powder and , stone grave

Hi, try checking the online manual on CD#1! Alternatively, browse through the best hints thread on this board. It's a gold-mine of information about the game.

Sapping powder weakens the enemy - like an Enfeeble spell. Stone grave - I don't recall but that sounds like it would act like Petrification.
