Hi everybody.

If I have killed the Sphinx, outside of the Temple, but I havn't answered the riddles yet, am I screwed?

Is there any workaround other than "tree surfing"?

Welcome to the board, TRW

You aren't in any trouble, game wise. Have you completed Skull Castle??
You need to complete it to be able to open up the Temple of Isis/Anephas' Tomb and eventually get to the Lost Sea!
