Geez I finally got through the Amazoni Manslaughtertraps with a baton, but only one of my samurai's in training got promoted. My other guy is pissed. Do i wait for the samurai lord to respawn or is this a bug?

You can only do one at a time. Ideally, you should have passed the other one the baton while the guy was still talking so the other one could have gotten it.

I don't know if you can get another one automatically. You may need to cancel the ascension, then reactivate it, and go back out to the burial grounds.

Oh yes, you can - as long as anybody in the group has the quest. Just enter Shurugeon and leave and the Spirit will be waiting for you. You can even get heaps of Batons if you drop them somewhere >g<.

Are you saying that he (the Spirit) respawns if you drop the baton but don't complete the quest, and load and exit a dungeon?

Yep!!! Several times he was even standing in or close to the moat. Just did it four times today - see my thread 'Quest Items Supply'.
