I've been reading some older posts on this forum and have come across some interesting thoughts about the patch.
It seems to be somewhat of a mixed blessing. So far I understand it actually fixes gamestopping/crashing bugs but also fixes some juicy exploits http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Also I read, quite often, that money can be big problem in the early stages. So I'd like to exploit that "Inn bug" at first to make things a little easier on my poor lowlevel heroes http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif No need to have billions and billions of gold when I'm level 1, but no need to be frustated about cash in a game either. Could this be done? Or will the patch fix my save-games too? Snoekie (who will walk the land of Gael Serran soon..) |
To patch or not to patch, that is the question!
The answer is simple, it depends what kind of game you want to play. If you are looking at lots of gold (which really isn't required in the early stages and quite sufficient in the middle to late stages), lots of HP, many assassins, bugs... then my advice is not to patch. If, however, you'd rather play a more "realistic" game in which you don't start with a gazilion gold pieces, work hard for you HP, plan on having only 1 assassin (unless of course you visit Wyvern... see, I didn't forget you this timehttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif), or have hardware related problems, then I would suggest to patch. Regardless, if you plan on using the Inn gold cheat and then patch, you'll be able to keep your money. Have fun |
Hi Snoekie!
My own take on this is if your game runs fine without the patch then don't fix it. There are advantages to having a bit more cash in the early game than you can easily earn - guild memberships and training not to mention better equipment. The patch fixes the way the game runs - your save files just document where you were when you saved - so your saved games will work with the patch should you decided to install it! Thank you for the quick responses!
I think I'll just install the game (when I get it that is, heh) and see how it plays without it. A little off-topic perhaps, but I was thinking about how to name my heroes and stumbled upon a cool site that actually generates fantasy names. http://spitfire.ausys.se/johan/names/ It's fun to play around with http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Take care all. Thanks for the link!!!
Years ago I helped my husband write a program that generated names! Was an interesting project! Sometimes I haul it out, dust if off and use it! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Wyv |

Cool link - thanks, Snoekie! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
To patch or not to patch: Well, I had to patch, because I got vampired and needed to wear a ring that I couldn't wear without the patch. I haven't had any crashes since then. But I do understand that some may not want the patch, cause it fixes some bugs that can actually be considered perks in the game. In any case, as Sazerac says, the patch is a last resort - best to have it and play, than not to have it and crash. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Mammawlin http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/ninja1.gif |
