I need your expert advice. A while ago, zan...(forgive me, I don't remember how to spell his moniker) told me about rerolling to get better hit points. It worked--for a while. Here's the situation now--I made a warrior, instantly remade him into a barbarian, got to barbarian level 5 (with 18 strength and 15 Fortitude), and now, after 34 rolls (Taking well over an hour), the most hps I've gotten is....4.

So wha' happened to those AA+ hps the manual says my guy's suppposed to get? Is there a certain time/place/area I should be in? Is it my machine (as old as I am, I sometimes think--Pentium 1, 133, 96mgRAM--so rerolling takes a very very very long time)? Or do I just have wonderfully lousy luck.

I love this game, but the time it takes to get decent hps is killing me. Not that I'm in any real hurry to get back to work, you understand. But it would be nice to speed things up a bit.

Thanks all.

Welcome to the board Cgrant!!!!

Ah yes - the hit point frustration syndrome. Many (MANY) players have gone through this. Here's the deal: the designers set up a really stupid increase system which is especially bad when you've changed class and the hit points that you get when you level up are just not rewarding. Unfortunately players think that reloading and trying again is going to make a difference as well they ought to expect, but it won't. In fact (there are threads on this topic) you may actually be making it harder for you to get decent hit points.

Solution/Advice: RELAX - take what you get and know that in the long run, you WILL get good hit point advancements and it will all work out okay! (it will!)

I really don't think it is worth your time to reload the game and try again.

Yeah, What Wyv said is so true! You will advance soon enough and the roll is not that important to waste too much time on. Just go on with what you've got and keep us informed as to how you are doing. Stay close!

Thanks, folk, both for the welcome and the tips.

And I will relax. Guess I shouldn't be so impatient--after all, I remember playing Wizardry 1 on my Apple II, where you couldn't save a game in the dungeon--you had to go back to the Inn first. Not to mention, of course, those cool black-and-white graphics.

Listen to Wyvern, she knows what she's talking about. It seems like the program wants to average it out in the long run.

My last barbarian, got within 7 lvl:

1hp, 4hp, 1hp, 54hp, 1hp, 2hp, 27hp...

Be patient, don't reroll for hp (reroll for stats points (2 minimum)http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif), it's all gonna work out in the end.

Heheh, Cgrant, another Wiz 1 veteran!! Cool. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/xyxwave.gif

Ditto to Ryanamur and Wvyern: if you keep rolling for the "highest" stats, you place yourself on the upper end of the RNG and eventually you'll get nothing but 1's. HOWEVER...it's only at the beginning when HP matters, IMO, so I generally do the "reload" thing until about level 8 and then ignore it from that point onward.

Typos, you don't know typos until you join a board where you have to post everything in your second language http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
