I have searched Shurgeon Castle up and down, looked through my conversation logs and I can't find out how to open the Vault... any suggestions on where to look?

I'm sure our Wyvern will be along soon with one of her delightful ASCII maps (actually, check the "Best Tips" thread, first page...there should be one there). The northern chain on the SE column (the one to the left of the vault gate) is the one that either opens the gate or resets all other chains. Pull all the chains going counterclockwise from the SE column except the "trip" chain, then go back around and pull the ones again that have retracted. Go back over it one more time, and that should do it. When all chains are "down", then pull the "trip" chain...the gate should open.

NOW work counter clockwise (7-1) any that have gone back up, pull down
NOW work clockwise (1-7) any that have gone back up, pull down
They should all now be down. PULL "L"
