Hy, Saz & Wyv. After finishing W&W I started to play Baldurs Gate II, But rearly I don`t go for that type of game. Can you guys out there point me to a good game? You know like, W&W, M&M,Half Life or System shock 2. I`ll apreciate it very much.

Knarfling 04-30-2001 09:29 PM

If you really liked W&W, you might like Wizardy Gold. It is a step backwards, but both are by D.W. Bradley, so there are a few smilarities. It was written several years ago, but it has a great replayability factor that I still like. I don't know if there are many copies still floating around out there, but you might look for them. Wiz 8 is supposed to be fantastic (from the comments of the beta testers), but we do not yet know when it will be released.

My two cents,

Knarfling

(I always keep a couple of pennies in my pocket so that I don't run around senseless.)

Great Two Cents worth Knarfling!
I can't think of any other games that have the first person perspective!
Wizardry Gold is a great prelude to Wizardry 8 (rumored to be released in July) and you will be able to import characters from Gold into 8.

Wizardry Gold is still available retail through "The Ultimate Wizardry Archives" which contains Wizardry games 1-7, 7 being "Gold". There is a good chance that if you have any used software dealers locally, you can find "Gold" in stock there too. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Well, maybe I have too much Black Isle Studios magic in my blood, but even I know they've done better than Baldurs Gate II (yawn!) and Icewind Dale.

If you really like the first person perspective (which I didn't before W&W) I can't help you without going all the way back to Eye of the Beholder series from AD&D (and maybe they're better remembered than replayed).

But if Character development and a twisted, dark, macabre plotline is what sets your heart thumping, well, you can't go past Planescape:Torment. There's lots of text to read, but after all, if you've played W&W, you're used to that!

And if you want to get out of the Dungeons into post-Apocolyptic California, Fallout 1 and 2 (which I think now is available as a boxed set).

That's my two cents worth. If you've played these already, sorry ... I'm already wondering what's out there for me after I've finished W&W (maybe, again, and again!).

Moni, thanks for the tip re the Wizardry Gold characters, but it's about six years too late. Unfortunately, my characters that conquered "Crusaders of the Dark Savant" have long since expired along with the 286 they lived on (still have the game, though!). Remember, that's when most of us played games without the benefit of forums, walkthoughs, etc. I had to end up BUYING the hint book! In the past few years I've learned that storage space is cheap, so whichever game I play, I always archive at least my final five savegames, just in case there's a sequel.

You might try Anvil of Dawn..if you can find it...it came out in 1996 by DreamForge published by SSI.

Fantaghiro,

http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/xyxwave.gif You're very welcome for the Gold info. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif My characters too, are long gone and I am going to have to settle for making "new" guys when I get Wiz 8. : bigfakesigh : http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif I don't even have the game anymore since I have a friend that I pass along all the fun stuff to. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif
I know what you mean about "the days" of no forums and walkthroughs! I never bought hint books, but my son's friends did and I could always get the answers from one or two of them whenever I got too stuck to figure it out on my own. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Thank you for the info on Planescape Torment and Fallout 1 & 2...I think my roomie has all of those laying around here somewhere! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Welcome to the W&W Forum BTW!

P.S. Have you given thought to re-playing Wiz 7 in preparation for Wiz 8?
I think if I had it, I probably would since I had such fun with it when I played it.

My 2 cents is: Betrayal in Antara and Return to Krondor. Not as involed or long lasting as WW, but I enjoyed both of them! Ever played them? http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Beleive it or not Summoner is a really good RPG. If you have alot of patience and a powerhouse machine I would recommend trying Ultima 9. If you loved System Shock 2, then you'll go ballistic over Deus Ex...it's what I'm playing right now...

Hmmm

I see that my previous post to this thread bit the big one.

If you're open to trying "something completely different" I'd recommend Settlers IV. Much fun!

There haven't been a lot of RPGs of late that I have really enjoyed. The best have already been mentioned.

Hope you find something to hold you over until Wiz 8! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Galic,
Thanks for the mail, and you're welcome - hope you invest wisely and enjoy them.

Moni,
FINALLY found this thread again, so I just saw your reply.

Thx for the welcome. I've just started checking into forums with W&W and am really impressed with the community of players. Most people I associate with in real life shun games - "I NEVER play *GAMES* on MY computer", they say, looking at me as if I'd just crawled out from under a rock and admitted to being an axe-murderer! Well, what other uses do computers have!!!

No, I haven't seriously thought about replaying W7, because I rarely replay (W&W might prove an exception - I'm already thinking of my second game solo character and I'm still in Skull Castle!) and I have games waiting. There are some coming up that I'll be checking out, too. Also, I think that "step, look around, map, step, look around, map" thing might be a bit frustrating now. I'll be like you - creating a whole new gang. Can't wait!
