sorry about the splelling. i have killed the rat and now have his staff but the guild quest guy wont accenpt the staff as evidence of him existing. did i do something wrong?

That isn't the solution to the Leprechaun quest - as you've discovered. The solution will be found in a chest which you can only find by going through the Temple of Isis/Anephas' Tomb (with the Sphynx).
