Maybe spoiler:

Those huge monsters cast something like stoneskin on my party members. How can I get the NPC's back? Would a stone to flesh scroll do the trick? Hmm don't have any on me.

The Basilisks have turned your dudes to stone. ;)

Stone to Flesh will do the trick. Pick up some potions of Mirrored Eyes(or something similar I can't remember the name), it will make you invulnerable to their "gaze".

Yep, either do that or animate dome dead to get hit by their gaze. The undead are immune to it.

You can buy Stone to Flesh scrolls at any temple.

Level 2 mage spell Protection from Petrification is also very useful against basilisks.

I know but the problem is: I'm running around inside Durlags Tower and I can't be bothered to travel to some temple just to get some scrolls.

Eh? Who's calling monsters after me? My name is Hugh, which means 'light' and 'spirit'.

I think you meant 'huge'. ;)

Changed the mistake Mr. Yorick.

summoning is sooo great for beating basilisks everytime , remember however big the basilisk it only ever does 1 damage in combat, so your creatures can cream it and skeletons are immune to the gaze, plus with 6 wolves he can only gaze 1 a round at best anyway, that way your party is in no danger whatsoever but you still get full exp, makes basilisks easy, i never used a stone to flesh scroll on my own party (cept for getting branwen out once) or protection from petrification cos there was no need with monster summoning
