I've noticed that there are beggars all over the city of Baldur's Gate, and they are grateful when you give them loose change. My question is this...does giving the beggars a donation do anything in the game? Perhaps if you give every one a coin??

Not very likely. I've never noticed anything.

No you just give away 1 piece of cold. That's it. No rep. points to gain.

However, in BG2 you need to speak to at least 1 beggar in order to solve a quest. You'll find out sometime

i always wondered that too, if you give 1 gp to all the beggars you might gain something, but its a lot of hassle as they are spread out alot, theres one or two in the sewers/cellars too i think

I think they're there for roleplaying purposes only (and also to make us feel guilty seeing you can give them as much gold as you want, they still wander around the streets semi-naked). I also thought you'd get some experience points when I first saw one...obviously not. Bioware have a wicked side to 'em. How many of you tried to save the "witch" at the carnival?
