No way back. Troublesome enough that you might want to restore.
At least the patch seems to help some of the time on getting your 'bites' in. Keep your eyes open for the vampire ring another vampire might give you (Skull Castle). And try to get the fiend spell lifesteal.

Never had a Vampire in the party, so does a Vampire lose hitpoints comparable to a cursed weapon and therefore an artifact with +1 regeneration would negate the disadvantage of being one?

There is only one known cure for the curse of Vampirism and that is to use the best spell in the game- The Load an old Saved Game spell.

Only use the vampire ring if you ARE playing with the patch . . .

But, does the Vampire Ring keep the character from needing to suck blood?

While playing with a vampire PC, somehow I got the feeling normal regeneration is ineffective, and only the vampire ring helps. That slows down the hp loss, but not completely stops it, so you still have to regularly have a bite of whatever. You might use repel in cases where you opponent(s) have a dislike of vampires, and you're loosing hp too fast.

How about wearing 2 Vampire Rings?
