I have a quest for my wizard to get a Colanth's Eye. I recall killing
something like that in Dragon's Spire, in the lake. But when I go back
to find an eye there is nothing? Am I in the wrong place?

Not sure - the lake where you fight the Colanth is the small round lake with the underwater passage to the Guardian of Earth. Did you search the bottom? The eye would just look like a gem - not an eye - so that might have confused you. If you sold it as a gem you should be able to buy it back!

Sorry, items that are not related to the main quest disappear within a short time. I'm afraid you'll have to either restore to before killing the Colanth or get more mage guild levels from the guild in Brimloch.

Oh does this bring back memories (bad ones)... IF you are playing without the patch and have killed the Colanth, left the area without picking it up, it WILL be GONE when you return... so, don't spend hours diving for it, it's not there.

IF you are using the patch, then what Wyv said may be the case.

Thanks Wyvern, I was just going to post and see if anyone else had found the Gaurdian of Earth (had sort of forgotten how important it was because I found it by mistake.I killed the Collanth, dived for the eye, saw the hole going down with a magic sword at the bottom (some special Gladius with a "The..." sort of unique name) and dived for it.On my way up I saw the other tunnel, resurfaced and dived once more to explore this new avenue.

The sword is called the Imperial Gladius, and it almost looks like a puzzle item, because of the name, and it's not as good as other swords you find at that stage. Never found the matching quest though.
But the sword you find in the lake in Dragonspire is a nightblade, and the gladius is from a chest. (At least the 3 times I played it was.)

re the original question-
Spirit Eye shows nothing in the lake; I am playing with the patch.
So I guess I will reload and do it again - not so bad if you know
exactly what to do!
I could hack a saved game file but I can't find the eye in
the list of game items to get its code.
Wyvern - do you know what it is?
