How do you kill the spores in the forest near the castle? Also, where is the entrance to Shurugeon Castle? I seem to be roaming around in the forest, but haven't found anything so far. Thanks.

Rather than the forest, roam about the moat instead; swim further down the east side of the castle, and you'll eventually come to a grate you can swim down. Exploring the underwater passages (make sure you don't drown), find a lever which will open a grate granting you access to the castle's south side, where you can sneak in.

Fire spells work excellently to BBQ spores.

Note too that you can back away from them to a point where they can't hurt you but you can't see them either...your cursor can target them at that distance!
