i did not cheat gold, but i always got to much.
i use the fletchery skill to build up large amounts of money.
i took an arrow -a good one is dragon arrow- blessed it multible times, and now i got no money probs at all; and i´m playing with 6 chars.
i blessed my arrow like 8 times and sell them with merchant skill for about 250 000!!!
think that´s the best way to get lot of money without cheating.
but if u need something more thrilling try pickpocketing big guys like erasmador or dwarfen king(need a very high skill though).

That fletchery skill is one of the lesser-known "wonders" in the game, and is the main reason why anyone should consider making one of their characters a Ranger (other than for the Vine spells, which you can't train for anyway). Very good solution!
