I never got a key from the Heretic outside Serpent Temple.
But I wanted to question Kerah's statue inside, for which
the key is necessary. After otherwise finishing the temple
I never could find the Heretic again.

So I figured out how to use a hex editor on a saved game
file to modify an existing, no longer needed key to an
Heretic's Key. It works OK. If anyone wants to know how to
do this let me know at "rrobinson@paradise.net.nz". You
need a hex editor and know how to use it (its easy).

Talking to Kerah gets lots of background info on the plot
behind the game, plus some nice items.

Hey Wyvern -
How can I contact you?
I have vague ideas about a W&W inventory editor, but
there is so much I don't yet understand. I have a list
of items and can figure out their "code number" but
how are they positioned in the inventory? Also, why
are there 3 repeats? Which is the important one? How
is the time of day encoded? Money is no problem, or
experience. Hey, this is just as much fun as the game
itself!!
Cheers, Tarweed

Tarweed -

Next to my name on this post you will see a icon looking like an envelope - click it and you can email me!

Having done some inventory hacking for some players here - it would seem that the important inventory in which to place the item is the last of the three repeats. I am guessing that the reason for the 3 repeats is to frustrate hackers who don't know enough to "look harder". If they went in and tried to hack only the first section they come across of the characters and their inventory it will have no affect. Since I hacked the game for my son and wanted to up his stats to give him an easier time, I learned that to hack the stats you have to change them in all 3 locations!
I'm no expert at hacking but manage to do some things!

Which dat files did you edit to modify character stats and inventory?

Wyvern 01-06-2001 11:46 AM

Look in the SAVEgame directory - you will find the autosave file and then whatever saves you have made in the game. Name will be something like game04.sav

Ok I give.... I think I need to be guided through this. The ASCII text isn't too far to figure out, but I'm having trouble trying to find out what lines contain the current stats and inventory. And also... where the hell is the serpent key?
