Am new to this site, and new to BG so please excuse any naivete in the following question:
I and my party get creamed by the Anhkegs anytime we are near the fishermen's village. Have managed to kill more than one only a few times and then still end up getting wiped out - save vs death failed, etc. Is there a quick / efficient way to kill an anhkeg before getting mauled myself? Much obliged for any ideas. |
Ankhegs have no major weaknesses, apart from the fact thatthere are far weaker in melee than at range.

There is one way but it is tricky. When the Ankheg see your guys he will pop out of the ground. Before he shoots his wad of green slime have the guy he is shotting at move out of his range with everyone else firing at him. The Ankheg should go under again to follow his pray and everyone else will be firing at him through the ground. You should be able to beat them this way without taking a hit as long as only one guy, the bait, is in the Ankheg view from the start.

Welcome to the boards Thales...I find that if you attack with your tank and magic missile that crap out of them they die pretty quickly...also resting underground is a good way to level up beginning parties quickly.

That one from pritchke works well. Another one would be to have your character with best saving throw (can´t remember what.. acid?) to walk before the rest, and fire the beast like silly with all possible ranged weapons when it pops up, and hope that the tank succeeds in his saving throws. Ankheng is also a good target to use your remaining magic missiles on, if you have any.

tank up one party member with save vs death stuff and low ac as possible send him in, he takes all the hits (or lack of) and the rest of the party follow up and do them over.
method 2 - use one party member to draw their fire running at the edge of their range or using trees as cover whilst the rest close to attack method 3 - tank up thief with health and poison, sneak in and backstab drawing the ankheg into melee then follow up with rest of party method 4 - (my favourite) get hard and high level and just walk towards them hitting as you go and completely ignoring their weak low level attacks |
found a guy in central area baldurs gate who buys ankheg heads too, though i havent yet got one for him, only just on to chapter 5, taking things nice n slow and exploring everything i can

The smithy in Beregost will give you a much better deal and will offer to make the mighty angheg armor for you. A great way to get rid of some of that overflowing gold in that part of the game.

Once you get him to make the armour, doesn't he stop buying the heads (or buy them at a very reduced price)?
