I sold my Wang of Magic Missiles to the wizard in high hedge for 250 GP and then he turns right back around and is selling it for 3000+ gold!! Wtf is up with prices in this game?!

You do relize that is just like real life don't you.

n00body 10-11-2002 04:42 PM

Um not exactly. I KNOW you buy things at 1/2 or 1/3 prices and then sell then for twice as much but jeez, 250 gold up to 3000+? That's like 1200% higher!

er... you've never had the pleasure of being in a pawn shop have you? Also, the amount that a person would charge more when selling would be much more as the item became more expensive, and you'd better bet that 3000gp is a lot of cash. Early on, anyway.

You sold the Wand with about 2 charges left. The shopkeeper recharged the Wand, and now it has a full 20 charges. Sounds fair to me. This works with all the Wands, by the way.

(A Wang of Magic Missiles? Now that would be very interesting. I see a lot of potential for a bad Japanese anime out of this one.....)

well i buy a reasonable spec second hand computer for say 50 quid and sell it for 300 sometimes so thats a fair markup maybe i should enter this game and become a shopkeeper kinda like tron cept with baldurs gate

Here we witness the fleecing of the Sword Coast...SIX...am I understanding you correctly when you say that you can sell a wand that you have been using fairly regularly and but it back and it will be recharged? Another question that I have is there any way to tell how many charges are on a wand?

That is correct. If it's some Wand that you don't care about, such as Magic Missile, you might as well just use up every charge to get the thing out of your Inventory. But if it's some extermely rare, extremely powerful Wand, such as Monster Summoning (especially valuable to Dynaheir, as she can't learn any Conjuration/Summoning spells), the best way to go is to use up every charge but one, then sell it to a merchant--any merchant--and then buy it back, FULLY RECHARGED. Most Wands will have 20 charges when recharged, and some in BG2 go all the way up to 50 charges--YOWza!

To find out how many charges you have left, Save your game, fire the Wand until it disappears, and Reload. Another way is to take the Wand to a store and see how much gold it's worth, then use one charge, and then see how much gold that one charge was worth. In BG2, you need only put the Wand in your Quickslot and go back to the main screen--a little number in the corner of the Quickslot will show the # of charges remaining.
