im stuck in toad village... when i was first in the waters "ekbu" said "guards!" and then this guard came in front of me... i tried to talk to it and say "ukabu", but he ignored me and kept killing me. so i killed him and then when i went up to ekbu he started attacking me. wasnt i supposed to make friends with them?? why wont they listen to me?

There is a bug in the game that characters inside buildings will sometimes start talking to you even when you're outside. In the lake around toad village it happened to me that I accidentally swam too close to one of the inhabitants of toad village before talking to Ekbu. That villager started shouting for help, which immediately made everyone hostile, and impossible to talk with. So when I restored I made sure first swimming to the center of the lake and talking to Ekbu before neatly filling in the automap.
If you happen not to have a save file from before they got angry you can try to wipe out all villagers except Shinwiki, and cast 'charm' (spirit level 2) on him. I heard that suffices to still do his quest (which by the way is not necessary to finish the game).

yeah i got a previous save... and i did charm ekbu in that game. a toad behind him shouted "attack! ekbu is charmed!"
