I know that when you finish the game in BGI/TOSC your final save character is what is exported to BGII/TOB. My question is: Can I transfer a player from one game of BGI/TOSC into a new one (I know that I will lose all my stuff but that is okay) without finishing the game? I ask this because I believe that I have installed a patch that may or may not have completely fixed my game(the movie that plays when you are entering the Temple of Bhaal for the final battle keeps playing over and over) and I believe that both of my saves are corrupt(save game and auto save). I really want to take my Fighter/Thief to BGII/TOB but unless I either fix the problem(which doesn't look good) or transfer him out I will not be able to do that and I am back to square one with a very pissy disposition.

So once again:

Can I transfer a character in BGI/TOSC into a new game of BGI/TOSC without first completing the game?

Mr. Baggins:

I THINK that I exported my Paladin prior to the Final Save and then imported her into BG2, SoA.
Try exporting your character from a previous save, and then importing into BG2, SoA. I found a way to keep most of my stuff, but it's cheesy and not really necessary.

While your advice is most likely true dear Keraptisdm. My dilema is that I really want to stick a sword in Sarevok, something (due to the problems listed above) that I have never gotten to do. So can I export/import the character "within" BGI/TOSC as well?

Opps. Sorry about that Mr. Baggins. I misread your thread. NOW I can truthfully state that I have no idea. Perhaps our esteemed colleagues, Lord Brass and the others can provide you with a more illuminating answer. Give it a go; you'll only have wasted hours of your time if it does not work. ;)

Well, you certainly can but I don't see where that gets you, unless you want to start all over again.

If you're not sure how to do it (though I'm convinced you are):

Go into the game with the character you want. Go to their record form in the game, and you'll see the export button down on the right hand side. Press that, and save the character with a memorable name (you'll see where to write it) something like "I'll finish this even if it finishes me".:joke:

Exit that game once the character's exported, start a new game and go through the character creation process, but hit the import button where the export used to be. Call up the character you've saved and there you are.

However, this will only export the character and not their items or where they've been, so you really will be starting again, but with an experienced character from the get go. (Edit them back in) ;)

Make sure that the game is installed properly, and that you've patched it accordingly. Also, sound cards are one of the biggest problems when it comes to playing games. The computer tries to play .WAV files for the game, but your computer can't actually do it so it crashes. A lot.

Here is something wierd. I exported my character and imported him to a new game and he took all of his stuff with him. The Bows, the ShortSword of Backstabbing, the Shadow armor, the whole nine yards. Maybe that is because I stayed within BGI and didn't go to BGII. Don't get me wrong I am not complaining I was just suprised.

Yup...when you import from BG1 to BG1, you keep all the items that you had in your inventory when you exported your character. That's why when I do export to do that, I leave everything on the ground. (I like playing fair).

yeah an interesting happened to me when i did this. i imported my kick arse level seven mage into the beginning and tried to kill Gorion, but he killed me wit one lightning spell (chain lightning i think) oh yeah if anyones goin to ask if u can import BgII characters into the game, u can't. my com crashed and said assertion prob or something when i tried/

Hmmm, that'll teach me to drone on about something I haven't done very much of! There are some standard characters made up for you already (for MP I guess).

Oh well, it could be worse. I might have gone over Shady's last save and have nothing to show for it all. Yes, that's right, I have too.
