I know this is an odd question but do you always reload when a party member dies or do you find a new member ?
All this reload just bothers me. |
Personally, I follow a few simple rules.
Rule 1: If you haven't invested too much into the character (i.e. early in the game) then I just go on and try to find someone else or rasie them from the dead at the nearest temple. Rule 2: If I have had the character for quite some time and want to keep him/her around and they die (but NOT blasted into a fine pink mist) I deffinately go to the nearest temple to have them raised. Exception to the rule is when they die and there is no way i can carry all of their gear back to a temple. Rule 3: If I have had the character for quite some time and want to keep him/her around and they die (but ARE blasted into a fine pink mist) I reload. I also reload for the exception noted in rule 2. Although I know that rule three and the exception for rule two may be more powergaming than roleplaying I feel that the way that I approach the matter of dead characters (and I have experience in this remember I am a Kahlid and Xzar fan) is a hybrid that allows me to both stay true to the game both on the computer and the one in my head. After all if they didn't want you to be able to bring unlucky characters back why would every shmoe who runs a temple be able to resurect your companions? |
I follow closely to what Mr. Baggins stated.
Go to a Temple to have someone raised if you really want them back, AND can afford the coin. Letting them lie in a crumpled heap to pick up someone new, leads to some other issues for the role players. Would that be a proper way to leave a fallen commrade? Especially if you're really good. (But that's another topic.) Sometimes I just reload the game, especially if I'm in the depths of some dungeon and treking back to a Temple to have them raised will take a long time. (Not true to role playing, I know, but sometimes necessary with my limited gaming times.) If the main character dies, do you reload or start a new game? I reload, figuring that my fellow party members carried me to a Temple and had me raised. Do what suits your gaming style, and you can't go wrong. :D Now what's your position on the Kobold issue? ;) |

(Little Note: Being a Paladin, I didn't want to use my cowardly little tactic of using the Amnish Soldiers as by principal offense against Nimbul. So, I chose the path of Self-sacrifice: Since Minsc & Imoen were both Level 1 and both Good, it cost only 100 gold to absorb each of Nimbul's damned overpowered Magic Missiles.) |

Once your Cleric gets Raise Dead, you get to save some of your gold, by not having to visist the temples. [ 10-03-2002, 02:38 PM: Message edited by: Keraptisdm ] |
It all depends. If I am playing good I usually do not let characters die, however when I was playing evil I freed the Brawen only because I was going to fight the mage nearby and he usually kills one of my guys. So in the battle Brawen died and then I removed her from my party just as I planed. So, Yes you may use NPC's as fodder, with that one exception I usually reload if it is someone I wish to keep.

The Nashkel Mines is only a pain for Level 1 characters because of the lack of hitpoints, causing possible instant death. Otherwise, it's a piece of cake; It's Nimbul who's difficult. By the way, in BG1 your Cleric will NEVER get Raise Dead, unless you're playing without the EXP cap. |
Good points everybody . Ohh my I have forgotten all about raise dead .
Can I raise dead whereever a NPC dies . Even if it is in the deepest dungeon and I'm visiting a tempel in the other end of the world . |
I miss Raise Dead after going back to BG1 after playing ToB :( Oh well, I just finished Cloakwood, so BG2 is near.
|
But you should be able to raise dead in the temples. I've seen that you can buy it there .
Ohh welcome to the forum Caramon Majeure |
