OK, so what is the dumbest thing you've done while playing? You know - suddenly you realize your mistake and days of frustration suddenly dissolves into sheer embarassment.

For me it was getting out of the Boogre caverns. I had the wooden poles and those steps were sliding in and out of the walls soooo smooth. The problem was that I couldn't climb them, not any of them. It took me two days of frustration before I accidentally noticed that throw away line in the manual about using the NumberPad - 0 key to jump.

Dooohhhhhhhhh.

Oh what an interesting idea for a thread!!!

I didn't notice the chest in D'Soto's room when I first explored that area so spent so much time going back through the castle trying to find the 5th evil element. Did take an interesting side trip while trying to find that element. Up near D'Soto there is that grate you can open and a ledge outside overhanging much of nothing. It just seemed to be something important so I did a lot of jumping off that ledge and trying to find other things near it I could climb. Took a nice walk all around the castle walls that way. Nice view which I really did enjoy but nothing important for the game.

I have one good too. After I finished serpent temple I throw all my special coins away.
Then I noticed one Guid mission in seacond town... Collect 10 coins at serpent temple...
So back to temple to kill so clerics...

Took me forever to find the 0 to jump instruction as well. I had tried C(for climb), space bar, J, in fact every letter key, never thought of trying the numbers. It's not the usual place to put this type of command.

Hehe... I took the tour of the castle walls too, Wyvern. Saw a very nice sunset and had a little fun moat-diving afterwards ...

My latest moment of DOH came in the Tower of the Rite, where I assumed Ardibren had stashed one of the evil relics (he DID say that one was in "the Tower" right?) So there I was for what seemed like hours, up the stairs down the stairs, poking every odd looking texture I could find looking for the secret door that would lead me to the hidden relic. I finally gave up and continued the quest, later finding that the tower he was referring to was another tower entirely. Oops.

This board really helps! I tried to kill the Lich in Skull Castle because I thought I had exhausted the dialog with him and he was a noisome fellow! Later, on this site, I read that you get a key from him which opens a whole new area. Trying to kill the sucker was annoying, he kept teleporting around and siccing nasty critters on me. He would regenerate almost as fast as I wounded him. Then, after restoring an earlier game I found the magic word (flame? or spirit?) to put me on a quest. This reminded me of two things: save early and often, and don't kill the NPCs that have a name unless you are really sure it's a good idea!

Realizing that you can map the keyboard commands any way you want to under the options menu and
complaining that I didn't know where the correct key was in the first place

*snicker*

Re-mapping keyboard commands is the first thing I do when starting a game, since I have a standard mapping to any game (0 on the numpad is always my jump, r-ctrl is always duck -if available etc). I was suprised that whoever decided the deafult commands mapped the "0" key to jump, since I don't know anyone else that uses that.

As for my moment of DOH, I was planning on killing the Stout king and all his guards for experiemce, then raiding his vault, but I wanted to leave and come back since everyone's inventories were full. Luckily, I did pickpocket the key and raid the private vault, but I left before killing anyone or raiding the main vault. When I returned later with freshly emptied inventories, I ran into the Stout Mine Bug, where he gives you back the permit twice, which causes it to load into the mines them immediatley back out, effectively making it impossible to re-enter the mines. All that missed experience and armor....*sniff*.

Unable to escape after killing Scabban, I walked for hours. Finally, I reset the game figuring I had dropped or missed something. Then, when loading my game, I noticed those other options - you all probably know which line caught my eye . . . ONLINE HELP. " . . . put Scabban out of his misery and pull the lever . . . " Lever? I am not sure what attribute covers powers of observation (intelligence?) but does anyone have a few points they could spare? Note: Spirit eye is a spell to USED not just acquired. Also, having last played M&M, I kept trying to jump using J . . . on the back of that stinking manual that I don't need is a lovely keyboard diagram. Oh, zero on the number pad. Look, Mom, I can jump. Also, never, never come anywhere near the drop button IN town. Unless, of course, you would like to experience the word irretrievable.

I think the worst for me was when allowed Lysandra to bite my Elf Rogue without having a recent backup. Then, to make matters worse, I saved thinking that vampirism could be cured by killing her, like in the Bram Stoker novel. I spent some time between having my new vampire gal bite Lysandra, using the tusk on her and spent a good hour cursing DWB before I realized I was totally screwed.

I only found one two things, one that vampirism would be hard to cure, and of course you all remember my ranting about how I could cure it until someone with the strategy guide mentioned that HPI said it was "permanent".

The other thing was that you can use any pointed object on Lysandra, and she will act weird, but not like the Tusk of course.

I think the other dumb thing was when I fist obtained Meteor shower, I let the spell fly while party stood underneath it and the group of monsters. They all died, as well as my entire party. I only made that mistake once.
