I have a Level 18 True Neutral Mage and have the ability to memorize level 8 and 9 spells but the spells I have been carrying around will not let me 'write magic'.Such spells as Monster summoning, power word....,iron body. I also haven't been getting any automatic spells memorized into my spell book as I have progressed through the last few levels. Is this normal and what is the reason as it seems pointless gaining experience if I don't get the good spells.
Thanks |
Regarding the ability to not memorize spells, there are two likely answers (leaving out the possibility of tech issues):
1) You have a specialist mage that cannot write spells of those schools. 2) Your character's Int is not high enough. You need 18 Int to cast lvl 9 spells, and iirc 16 Int to cast lvl 8 spells. If your character has less that this, you may have serious problems rectifying the situation. There are very few items that raise Int permanently, which is what you would need. If your Int is indeed the problem, I would suggest using Dalekeeper to raise it a couple of points. I'm not sure what you mean by the second part of the post; "[not] been getting any automatic spells memorized in my spell book". Do you mean that you are not gaining spell slots of the higher levels? That would be an indication of a low Int. |
Thanks once again, I do not have a Specialist Mage. I am getting spell slots at Levels 8 and 9 but now it is clear that I do not have a high enough Int to memorise. Dumb question but what is Dalekeeper and how would I use it to raise the Int? Thanks

Dalekeeper is the editor for IWD. It allows you to alter stats, add items, etc.
If you are getting the spell slots but just can't write the spells, there might be something simpler that would work; drink an Int-increasing potion (Genius, Mind Focusing) and then try to write the spells. [ 02-17-2007, 05:43 PM: Message edited by: Aerich ] |
There's a few items that increase INT, and at least one of them (a dagger) isn't random.

I think falcon's playing IWD1, not IWD2. There's maybe one or two Int-increasing items in IWD1.

2)I thought IWD1 was just like BG1 and 2: the INT requrement on spells had never been initiated. |
