It's really slim pickin's out there. I've been to many sites and Ive found two good ones. I also downloaded a few decent ones from IWD. I found a really great one, Merlin from Excalabar (sp). It is really well done. I've found a lot of comedic ones (like Homer Simpson), but I don't want anything like that. Hopefully I just missed some good sound sites. So help me out if you can. Thanks.

If you can't find any, you can always cobble some together. Just put them in your BlackIsle/BG/Sounds directory and use the following titles:
Xa.wav: Battle Cry Xb.wav: Becoming Leader Xc.wav: Tired Xd.wav: Bored Xe.wav: Badly Wounded Xf.wav: Selected 1 Xg.wav: Selected 2 Xh.wav: Selected 3 Xi.wav: Action Acknowledgement 1 Xj.wav: Action Acknowledgement 2 Xk.wav: Action Acknowledgement 3 Xl.wav: Being Hit Xm.wav: Dying Xn.wav: In Forest Xo.wav: In City Xp.wav: In Dungeon Xq.wav: Daytime Xr.wav: Nighttime Xs.wav: Rare Selected 1 Xt.wav: Rare Selected 2 Xu.wav: Rare Selected 3 Xv.wav: Rare Selected 4 Xw.wav: Reaction to Party Member Death "Selected" is what the char says when he/she is clicked on, and the rare selected pop up VERY randomly and VERY rarely in game. Feel free to change the "X" to whatever you wish in the .wav file, but the files 1) MUST be in the BG sounds folder, 2) MUST be .wav files, and 3) MUST have the lowercase letter (a-w) on the end in order for the sound to work. For example, if I wanted to use Himura Kenshin's "oro" sound as the daytime sound in a particular sound set, I'd make the sound Kenshinq. AFAIK, the files can be as long as you want, but I find longer files tend to slow down gameplay. (Although a rare selected long speech is funny.) Finding suitable sound files is easier than you think, especially if you chase after movie or television sound clips. The Windows sound recorder does an okay job of allowing you to edit the clips to trim words, dialogue, etc., but I tend to use Adobe Premier. |
No comic ones? Bah. Else you could have used the soundsets I made with samples from Stewie (from Family Guy) and Bender and Zap Brannigan (both from Futurama). I think they're hosted at Sorcerer's Place; at least they were last time I checked. ;)

I tried countless times to get the 'right' soundset, and like yourself wasn't interested in using Homer Simpson for a ranger. So instead I used the soundsets from NWN when I bought the game and altered the wav files into standard files, and behold I had a darn good wav soundset which I have in a zip file. I didn't cover all the bases, and I made it for BGII. But it fills all required areas as far as select character and the like. I can e-mail it to you if you like...I think its somewhere around 700kb in size, but it may be more or less.

I have GREAT SOUNDS for Beavis and Butthead chars!!!! also the pics...
Mail me if anyone wants them! -BLU |
There's a bunch of good soundsets at http://www.sorcerers.net, but they're difficult to find in all the wealth of STUFF there....also, their sever was down yesterday. You may have to wait a bit. You can also do a Google search for "Kris Johnstone's Custom Voices." I personally recommend the Dwarf, Gnome, Mage, and Alcoholic Bard soundsets.
