How does this ability work, exactly? How likely are my chances for success with these traps?

Success of laying the trap is 100%. Problem is monsters are allowed a saving throw against it. I used a ghostwise halfling in HoF and almost all monsters made their saves, so I found it useless and stopped using it. However, I don't know how useful it is in normal mode. Since the monsters' saving throws are much lower there it might actually prove quite useful.
