When/if I finish my pally party game, I had intended on making an all dreadmaster party. However, I decided that it would just get kinda stupid with 6 dreadmasters running around. Therefor, I have decided to make:

The all Drow/Deep Gnome Pally/Dreadmaster/sorcerer party! (I am feeling way too powergamy for my health)

My idea:

Drow fighter4/paladin (do drow paladins use plate?)
Svirneblin monk/dreadmaster (classic powergamed uber-AC build)
Drow ranger1/rogue1/paladin2/mage (Loved it, keeping it)
Drow paladin2/morninglord (healing dude)
Drow Sorcerer (OMG! A single class!)
Drow Sorcerer (OMG! Another one!)

It bugs me that I can't rampantly MC these guys due to harsher favored classes, but I think that they will still be a powergaming terror in HoF.

The way I see it, the Deep gnome with his godly magic resistance will become my uber-fighting decoy, while my 4 (yes, 4!) bombadiers will use him as target practice. The drow paladin tank will be the backup decoy, though his main purpose is a hasted flanking assault after the enemy has been severely injured. The Golden Heart will work wonders with this style. On the other hand, I was considering giving him the Massive Greataxe of Flame and handing the Heart and CS to the MC mage for Tenser Fury.

The decoy gnome will go with... something. I haven't decided yet, though it would have to be godly.

The cleric will go with greatswords.

Both sorcerers will be dual wielding short blades.

I'll keep you posted on this party. Let me know if you have any ideas (Possibly ditching a sorcerer for another cleric?)

Wait, you're powergaming, and not one Drow sorcerer is using a quarterstaff? SHAME ON YOU!!!
I'd take onme Wizard instead of Sorcerer. Better feat gaining, multiable to fighter.
Oh and yeah... YOU ARE WAY TOO POWERGAMEY FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH!!!

Cool, I've coined a phrase: powergamy!

Anyone who says that owes me a quarter

Your right, a quarterstaff should be given to one of the casters... I got it! I'll exchange one of the sorcerers for a mage and give him the quarterstaff, allowing me to ditch the ranger level, and make him a rogue2/paladin2/mage. This also allows me to lose the rogue level on the other mage, and if needed add another rogue level! Thanks for starting the train of thought! (Yeesh, anyone have any antipowergamer pills? :D )

You know, my next 'new for me' game may have to be a (OMG!) non-powergamed characters party. Dear God, no paladins or dreadmasters, a (gasp!) high level rogue, and maybe only 1 mage

Hah! April fool!

I started the party last night, and I am loving it! I haven't even beaten the prologue yet, but I am seeing that these guys are going to rock. However, it is somewhat of a letdown that the deep gnome will be level 1 until 10000 xp...

I am probably going to MC the monk over to Dreadmaster at about level 5... Though I am reluctant to take the xp penalty. I may just keep the monk a SC, but I'll make that desicion later.

I'm not doing this now, but my next party will probably be an all svirneblin party (hell, they used that as "what not to do" in the manual!)

I'll make an update on the goblin siege later today hopefully.

OK, do this... make a NORMAL party, with no more than 1 member of the same race, and only 1 member of a class... but without having all the frikkin classes in them! Six people, no exploits, no uber items from mods(I know you're not using any, but still), and no cheats. No stats under 8, but that might be hard for you, so no stats under 6 would be fine Then go play, and enjoy trying to turn a real motley crew of adventurers into a force to be recognized through out the Dales!

Oh, BTW, the Svirfneblin starting with 0 exp is a bug, pretty big one. In the rules it clearly states that ALL RACES START EQUALLY FAR FROM LEVEL 2. EoU fixes this. But you can cheat in to place him at 9k at teh start, if you want to...

Actually, my first party was more or less that:

human barbarian, dual wielding axes
aasimir paladin, longswords
drow cleric, staves
halfling thief, dual short swords
human mage
human sorcerer

I can't remember if I ever beat the game or not, but I did get to I and M. This was back when the game first came out, I played it and retired it until recently.

No, it won't be hard for me to get no stats under 8. You underestimate me ;) (now, it may be physically painful and break my most solemn oaths, but I can handle it)

Update: goblin seige (spoilers)

The downside of being ridiculously powergamy is having lower level characters at key battles. Still, with 15 faerie fires at my hands, I was able to easily dispatch the goblins and their leaders. Due to Cabbalus being so scared of me (or maybe just a glitch), I found him in the top left of the map with no protections.

Interestingly, I found that if you speak to Koluhm with a drow while getting the goblin message, your drow can translate it for an extra 300 xp and another extra 300 xp when you tell Shawford.

I am currently in the shaengarne ford, and all of my guys are level 3. Here is how they have turned out so far:

Marty fighter2/paladin1 (using Executioner's Wife)
STR 18
DEX 12
CON 16
INT 5
WIS 11
CHA 18

I realised that fighter4/paladin would earn an xp penalty, so i am instead going about 50/50 with the levels.

Squilly monk3 (fists)
STR 12
DEX 20
CON 18
INT 3
WIS 20
CHA 1

I'm thinking that I won't make him a dreadmaster, and just keep him as a SC

Yvonne paladin2/morninglord1 (greatsword)
STR 18
DEX 12
CON 16
INT 10
WIS 18
CHA 6

The cleric. I chose morninglord for even more bombadier power.

Alex ranger1/paladin1/mage1 (dualing moonblade and scimitar +1)
STR 12
DEX 20
CON 16
INT 20
WIS 7
CHA 5

Loved it, keeping it.

Veldrin rogue2/mage1 (whispering staff)
STR 12
DEX 20
CON 16
INT 20
WIS 7
CHA 5

Ditto. Paladin levels will be added.

Pharaun sorcerer3 (staff)
STR 8
DEX 18
CON 16
INT 10
WIS 8
CHA 20

If you don't love sorcerers, then I will blast you with a face full of 6 horrid wiltings!

So, all's good. Ill keep you posted

Jerry_Seinfeld 01-20-2005 05:57 PM

This sounds really cool and keep it updated! If it were me I'd of switched out the deep gnome for a drow so you could say you beat it with an "all drow" party. Oh yeah,Marty I must say you have an exellent talent for creating names :D

Marty4 01-20-2005 06:39 PM

Well, Veldrin is from BG2, Pharaun is from Salvatore's Dissolution, and Yvonne is Matron Baenre's first name, but I can take credit for Alex, Marty, and Squilly ;)

I made the monk a deep gnome due to their innate +4 AC and mirror image, making them IMHO the best decoy.

Updates: Torak and Vrek

It's tough, having your tanks be 2-3 levels behing normal at this early in the game. Torak was easily dispatched like any other orc, but Vrek was a tad tough. My pladin tank was wearing the Unholy Plate of Greater Crap (AKA half-plate), so his AC was sub par. Fortunately, lay on hands kept him alive long enough for the monk (with 8 more AC!) to take the troll's attention. My priestess' sunscorch finished off the sucker.

Oh, and my longsword-dual wielding ranger/mage has a shiny new blue sword!

Also, my Drow tank has a funky new throwing axe.
