-   -   Drow Conjurer, take a lvl of sorc for evoc? (http://www.ironworksforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25693)

I figured itd be fun to do stuff other than spam magic missiles, like the sorc on my team. But I heard about adding a lvl of sorc to allow evocation again. What would be a good lvl to do this? Since im drow, im already behind 2 lvls. and meantime my sorc is doing ok with the evoc spam.

Since the lvl of MM's goes up with lvl i doubt adding a lvl just for that would be worth it cause it would only look at that classes casting lvl.

Nah, not in that aspect. I chose conjurer for the extra spell per lvl, but now I cant cast evocation spells. No real rush since my sorcerer is doing that. But later on, I may want to join in. Now if you take a lvl of sorcerer, it undoes your specialty mage restrictions, meaning I can toss magic missiles again as wizard, not necessarily through my sorcerer pool.
Therefor getting the bonus +1 spell per lvl of a specialist and access to all schools.

It doesn't undo your inability to cast those spells from the WIZARD spellbook though. I can imagine that it does allow you to cast from scrolls though...

As JrKASperov said, the extra lvl of sorc to the conjurer is just for trigger spells, meaning wands, scrolls and such. This does not allow you to write an evocation spell to your spellbook. IMHO, that's not a good idea, it's always better to be alot stronger than just slightly more versatile, as is the situation here.

Ive done this numerous times in testing. It works, try it. Fresh brand new lvl 1 wizard, picked conjurer. Couldnt scribe any evocation spells. setcurrentxp to 1000, took a lvl of sorc. Now im allowed to learn/scribe evocation spells and mem them. Gained another lvl as wizard, and still holds true.
I know this has worked in other games.

And somehow they missed that playtesting...

Yes indeed, good sirrah.
Like BG2, lvl 1 ranger, dual to cleric. lvl1 ranger/lvl 40 cleric, you officially had lvl 40 cleric magic capabilities AND lvl 40 druid spells. Quite a selection. Something always gets through. like in NWN nights, 1 lvl of monk gave other classes the unarmed +attacks like the monk. So lvl 1 monk, rest druid, when you shapeshift, you had a slew of powerful attacks. Or kamas were the only weapons monks used considered unarmed so lvl 1 monk, ranger with 2 kamas, i had get up to I think 12attacks per round or some garbage. Whereas now they ruined it where legit builds mess up, once you put a lvl of anything adding 1 to your bab, the monks unarmed hits revert to standard chars.
Also 3rd Ed lets you sneak attack with missile weapons, here you cant. I had so many good plans for my ranger/druid to take 1 lvl and snipe sneaks. thats out the window now.
