I'm playing on Shaergarne bridge. After I've killed all the orcs I go into a cave at the back of their camp. In there there's a zombie or something and whenever it comes up to me and attacks I get assertion error 261, uncompression error -5. I have downloaded and installed the patch and it hasn't fixed my problem.
Hoping someone out here can help me as I've played Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and Icewind Dale 1 without problem and really want to play Icewind Dale 2 through to fruition. |
hm....when that happens to me i usually just reinstall the game...i know its a pain in the ass, but its the only way i have found to fix it...and, well, for me anyways, it helps if you dont shut off your computer until its "good and ready"

Assertions are a means for software testing while still under development - when coming up in a final product it´s a bug essentially. Just try patching and / or reinstalling your game. Or try to play the scene under different preconditions if possible - e.g. entering from another entrance.

If you can spare the space on your hard drive, do a FULL installation and patch the game. It sounds like the game is having a problem uncompressing a file it needs. If the problem persists or re-occurs, contact tech support with the full details of the assertion error. The problem could be a faulty disk.

Yeah it was a faulty disk, I brought it back and got a new copy which works perfectly. Well so far anyway.
Thanks for the help people. |
