Hey guys how do you actuley play online, and would any of you guys be interested in starting a game with me?

Bozos of Bones 02-06-2004 08:08 PM

I really don't know anything about this one. But I'm willing/eager to learn, so I hope this gets answered soon.
And yes, if our times are compatible, I'm quite happy with starting a game with you, Zellis.

You can always look for a game via gamespy but its easier to set up the multiplayer game yourself.

In order to play online, ALL of the people who are playing MUST have the exact same game version including patches, expansions, etc.

Designate one person as game Host. He will be responsible for starting the game.

Host: Prior to starting the game get together with the other players and agree on starting characters and whether you want to play in HOF or not. Then provide your IP address to the other players. Establish a password if you wish (optional)

Host: Start the game - puts you at the main menu
Toggle the Game Mode from single player to multiplayer using a TCP/IP protocol
Select Create Game - this puts you into the character arbitration screen - either import an older character or create a new one

Players: Start the game
Toggle Game mode to multiplayer with a TCP/IP protocol
Select Join game
Enter the Host's IP address
You will be prompted to either create a character or import a previously saved(exported) character

Once all players have joined, each player needs to lock in his character (click on the little icon) and the host can start the game.

Hope this helps.

BTW, this is all covered in the IWD2 manual on pages 25 thru 28.

Why read four pages o a manual if you can sum it up in so little words. Thanks, Micah.

Zellis 02-08-2004 03:01 PM

Thank's Micah. Now all I got to do is find my IP address.

Micah Foehammer 02-08-2004 04:09 PM

Run winipcfg.exe

Oh, you will want the host to have a STATIC ip. Also, in general, the host should be on the fastest connection.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

IPX would only be used for LAN games, methinks. 'tleast that's what I've been using it for.

I may, at some point, be interested in playing online (though I'm not quite sure if this puter here (at me dad's, where I got internet connection) is decent enough for IWD2 :/).

I would not bother with IPX as you can't play over the net with that protocol. Since you're already using tcp/ip (that's how you got on the net) you might as well stick with it.
