I have a ranger in my party who is also a 4th lvl fighter and his spells are greyed out! Did I miss that part of the rules? Is he of ANY use now?????????????????????????? He is human, so he doesn't "miss" any levels and it doesn't help removing his plate mail armour. What to do?

Whats his wisdom? You need the level of the spell +10 wisdom (so to cast a level 2 spell you need 12 wisdom...its easy). If he has like 9 wisdom...then theres something you can add your nifty extra creation points towards

Armor isn't a concern in this case, since Rangers get Druid spells. Only sorcerers, wizards, and bards have to worry about failure chances in armor.

The most likely cause is as Sagramore mentioned: wisdom isn't high enough for spellcasting.
