I'm almost done with IDII. I really enjoyed most of it. I found certain parts like the forest and the battlesquares boring, but loved most of it.

So what should I get next? I'm looking for a similar type of game. I'm an old D&D player, so I love that aspect of the game. Also love the fantasy roleplaying aspects, the combat strategy. Not so hot on the puzzles.

I liked the depth of the world, but might prefer a game which is slightly smaller and less time consuming. I usually play about 1-10 hours per week. I also don't want a mindless hack and slash.

This is the first RPG computer game I've played. Only other computer games I've played are Age of Empires and Chess. Suggestions are welcome.

Try Baldur's Gate Series....

Yes, if you liked IWD2 for its roleplaying-stuff, you can't really go wrong with Baldur's Gate I & II. It's a bit less combat-oriented, putting more emphasis on the story and character interaction. If you like BG, you can take this a step further with Planescape: Torment (if you can locate a copy of that game anywhere; I believe it's out of print). Great story and character development/interaction, fairly little combat.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are both very good. Planescape Torment is the best story based D&D CRPG. You could probably get it on Ebay for very cheap.

Neverwinter Nights is also a great suggestion. Uses 3rd edition rules, 3d perspective (but not a shooter perspective). Endless replay capability via the embedded toolset which has already spawned 1500+ user mods some of which are excellent. Has both solo and multiplayer capability. 1,000,000 registered users can't all be wrong.

Coming from BG2, and abit of IWD, I found NWN, the solo play, amazingly boring.
I honestly would not recommend it for a solo play ; Multi - yes, solo - no

The SOLO play of original campaign in NWN is a matter of taste apparently. I must be in the minority as I actually liked it. Although I was CONSTANTLY annoyed at the henchman AI. ARRRRRRRRRGH.

I say go with Baldurs Gate II, since you start at level 5 and don't have to work your way there from level 1 as you have to in BGI. I found it a pain to start at level 1 since I like the mage aspect when I play.
I also liked the story a little bit better in BGII.

i'm sorry but i would disagree... i would advice to play BG1 (with TotSC) before bg2... i mean, even in iwd and iwd2 you start at level 1 and its no big problem... besiades, the npcs you find to join you already have experience and are usually higher than level 1...
the bg1 story is excellent and i found it better than bg2 because it has far more suspence and surprises... besides bg2 is continuation of bg1 storyline...

Thanks fellas. I just finished the game and cleaned it off my computer. Whew, that is one big mofo! Is BG 1 and 2 that big? Anyway, I think I will get one of those, depends on availability and price.
