I was wondering, how long will the battle squares remain active once I leave the Ice Temple? How late in the game can I return to do them? I want to do some of the mid to upper level squares once my party is at a higher level, but don't want to go too far (meaning, go to a point in the game where I can't do the battle squares anymore).

You can until you quit the underdark.
