Could someone tell me how to get through the portals. Every time I try, the entire party gets sprayed with something that looks like ice daggers regardless of which portal I try.

There's a clue scratched on the stone there, namely a five-pointed star.

Top. Bottom Right. Far left. Far Right. Bottom left. Top.

You will have to do this every time you visit Orrick.
