I downloaded some portraits. As I put them in portraits directory I saw a big "?" sign. I read the manual and figured out that I have to adjust its bit rate. With paint program, I opened these files and saved the large one as 24 bit. and the small one as 256 color. and well done! I got them. but if I do this the portraits lose their depthness, lose their color. anyway to keep 32 bit color portraits? Arquera's portrait is great for my ranger/rogue

Yes the game will not allow diversity in portrait resolution, the question mark meaning its not readable in that format.
This is the only suggestion I can think of, have u tried running the game in 32-bit and then using these portraits, basically matching the resolutions.

I had the same problem. The only way I was able to fix it was use MS Paint. I stretched the portrait by one percent up (101) and then streched it by one precent down (99) and saved the portriat. My portraits were now 24 bit.

Does anyone else know and other way to change the bit size of the portriats?

There are resolution conversion programs you can get which are especially used to address this 'quality loss' and make it seem like the image itself hasn't suffered even when rendered from 32 to 16 bit colour - problem is I don't know *where* exactly such progs can be found you could look on the web and ask round in some technical forums. I'll keep my eyes open for you.
