For some sub-races (Aasmir etc) it says they gain 1 level slower than other races. Xp cap for IWD is level 30. It means that if a human fighter is lvel 30. an aasmir (+1 adj) is level 29 and a drow is level 28. right? if so, it's not a big disadvantage to be 1 level low is nothing?

I don't think the "reduced" level for being an aasimar, duergar, or drow is a major disadvantage, even at really low levels. Play what characters you like!

It means this:
Assume that your have 2 paladins, 1 normal human, 1 Aasimar and both have exactly the same amount of XP. The Aasimar pally will be 1 level lower than the human paladin. This is the trade off for all the benefits the race receives. I have a Aasimir pally in my party and it hasn't been a problem. However, I have seen advice that suggests that you may not want to have a party full of characters that have this "limitation" as it will mean that your party may be perpetually behind in the level advancement curve. |
i have an asimar.... and my party just went from Level 1 to Level 2. and all of them levelled at the same time! maybe it shows up later?
i like gaining levels and all, but for me, its not what i focus on! if i'm enjoying the story and having fun ingame, and finding cool stuff, the rest is all just KoolWhip! V***V |

Asimars need more XP to gain a level or they are 1 level behind everyone else.
For example, the rest of my party is at level 4, somewhere near 6,800+ to 7,000+ and the next level up (to level 5) is 10,000. But my Asiamr Paladin is only at level 3 (XP 8900+) and the next level up is at 10,000 which is one level below other party members. To put it simple: (For example) Hogar (Human figter, level 4) XP: 6750 next level 10000 Jonathan (Asimar Paladin, level 3) XP: 8900 Next level 10000 [ 09-15-2002, 04:27 AM: Message edited by: Paladin2000 ] |
+1 level adustment means that your character has different XP table. To gain a level, you must obtain 1000 * effective character level (all class levels + sub-race additions):
A Level 4 Aasimar Paladin needs ((4+1)*1000) = 5000 XP to go from level 4 to 5. A Level 4 Human Paladin needs ((4+0)*1000) = 4000 XP to go from level 4 to 5. A Level 4 Drow Paladin needs ((4+2)*1000) = 6000XP to go from level 4 to 5. Vesselle noted that all characters go up at Level 1 to Level 2. That's because the devs give higher difficulty races support at that stage of the game. Drow get 2000 bonus XP, Aasimar & Teifling sub-races get 1000 bonus XP, etc... Eventually, you will notice the difference in level-up rates. It isn't huge, by any stretch of the imagination. Certainly not as different as Rogues & Paladins in the old rules. Does the true or the "effective" level count for experience reward purposes? The latter would mean that an all-aasimar party isnt all that bad:)

Yes, that'sa good point.

It was my understanding that the Drow Deep Gonme and Gray Dwaf races gain lv's slower because they are more powerful.
Examole~when my drow reached max lv the computer said his sffective current lv was 32. |
