i've a druid or ranger can charm animals, why can they not command them? i have a 25% chance of being able to command the animal to attack, while the other 75% it just stands where it was charmed. what it is up with this?

I am getting the same problem. It usually happen when Itry to select the animal individually. Try selecting all your characters and the animal at the same time. It usually work.

I charmed an orc and had the same problem. He just stood there. Even after I pushed all and individualyy trying to get him to do something. Must be a bug?

Nopes, it's not a bug. Charm spell makes the humanoid your ally. He will heal you if he can, but will not attack his buddies unless attacked. Dire charm will have him attack directly, but i don't think you ever have control over the creature.

Then why is it that I can sometime control the creature, and sometime I can't?
|
Dunno... maybe charm animal does not work the same way.

Okay,
Charm is a spell. Animal empathy is a skill. In PnP, you have four results. I have used this skill in NWN, but not IWD:II. This is how it breaks down: Critical Failure - by failing by more than 5(?) you can turn a neutral (non-combatant) animal into your enemy. Failure - No result for good or bad. Success - If hostile, Animal will become neutral/accepting of presence. Critical Success - Animal will become a friendly companion for a duration, incuding fighting for you. |
That's not what is happening ingame.
I will charm an animal, but won't be able to control him, then next turn, I will be able. Then for sometime, I won't be able again, then, I will be able to control him for a few turns... |
