I have not finished Icewind Dale but I have an opportunity to go do the Heart of Winter stuff. After I am done with that is it possible to return back to Icewind Dale?

Absolutely. Are you going to do TotL, too?

You get to HoW by agreeing to go with Hjollder in Kuldahar. You get to TotL by agreeing to go with Hobart Stubbletoes in the tavern in Lonelywood (the HoW town). Upon finishing TotL you are returned to the tavern to finish HoW, and upon finishing HoW, you are returned to Kuldahar.

What stage are you at in IWD? Be warned, the first "fighting" area in HoW (Burial Isle) can be quite nasty. It's easiest if you go through IWD up to completing your collection the badges, then return to Kuldahar to take up Hjollder's quest.

Ah I see. In IWD I have two the six badges. Getting the first two seemed to take forever but it is still fun! Most of my party is level nine and are going to reach ten soon. Excuse my n00bness but what is TotL?

TotL is Trials of the Luremaster, an expansion on the HoW expansion. It is designed for L11-18 parties(right, don't go there at L11 unless you like pain). If you have a cable modem it's nothing, but if on dial-up, it's a 72meg DL.

Just to add, Trials of the Luremaster is a free expansion, and well worth the time to download. It also incorporates the final patch for IWD/HoW.
