Hell-o everyone.

Alright I have a bit of a dilemma so I need some assistance please. I need to transfer my characters from IWD to HoW, if possible.

1) I completed IWD with HoW installed, but when I defeated Belhifet I thought that I could just walk back to Kuldahar to start the HoW adventures. As many of you probably already know though, the game ends.

2) In light of this discovery I tried to "Create Game" with the "Expansion Only" option and just import my old characters, but they were nowhere to be found in the import area of character creation. I then went into my IWD folder and looked for my characters so that I might transfer them into the Characters folder, but once again they were no where to be found. All that I found that was remotely close was the save game files and folders.

3) So my question is how do I transfer characters from IWD to HoW or do I need to complete HoW before I complete IWD.

Oh and one more little tid-bit of information, my version with HoW installed is 1.4.

Anywho thx for taking the time to read my post and any info you can provide will be more than I have now.

Welcome!

1. If you mention the boss of the game, you should add a spoiler tag to your thread.

2. I am pretty sure (just got HoW) that to enter the expansion you must go through the door in Kuldahar that is always locked. The best time to do this is after getting the 6 _____s. Good Luck!

Righto

Thx for the tips and reply Marty.

Hi Bulgrin,

Nice to see someone else here from my own dear province. ;)

I would check to make absolutely sure that your characters are nowhere to be found in the export folder. Upon finishing the game, those characters should be automatically exported - if they weren't, it's indicative that something more might be wrong with your game.

One thing - the characters won't be saved under their character names, or even under the names of their classes. Try to import any and all character files, especially ones that you don't recognize. I seem to recall that the automatic export saves the characters in files entitled something like "Character 1", etc., corresponding to the order in which they were created. Make sure you scroll down the entire list, if you haven't already.

A question for clarification... do you have any options at all when you try to import for an expansion-only game, or is there just a big blank spot when you try to import character files?

And to buttress Marty's advice, I can confirm that HoW is indeed accessed via the locked door in Kuldahar. You can enter HoW at any time during the main game, with two restrictions: first, you have to meet the minimum average party level (iirc, it is lvl 9). Second, you cannot get back to Kuldahar after ascending the staircase that is triggered by the 6 _____s.

Hey Aerich

Ok, first off thanks for the help. Secondly my problem with importing characters is solved. I checked all the character files and it turned out that they were labled differently like you suggested. "Haha", I can't believe I didn't remember that from BG 1&2. Anywho it was nice meeting you guys (Aerich, Marty4), and I shall see you around.
