A while back I had to get a new PC. Now, what I'm wondering is, I still have IWD on my old pc and I want to know how to get to the saved game I was playing on last and transfer it to my new pc so I can continue on where I left off. What file do I take it from and what file to I put it into so when I click on Load Game it will show up? Help please?

If you are transferring from one computer to another, simply go to this directory:
C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\mpsave and copy the entire save game folder onto a floppy then copy it from the floppy onto your new machine following the same path to the mpsave folder (If you installed Icewind Dale into a different folder, just follow the path to the mpsave folder and copy the save game folder into that mpsave folder on your new machine). Make sure that you don't already have a folder in your new mpsave folder numbered the same way as the file you are trying to copy. If you do, simply renumber/rename the folder your are transferring. |
Hiya NewbietoRPGs...
In the directory that you installed IWD to, there should be a directory called 'mpsave'. For example: C:\Games\Icewind Dale\mpsave\ In here, you will see all your save games - For example: C:\Games\Icewind Dale\mpsave\000000000-Auto-Save\ C:\Games\Icewind Dale\mpsave\000000001-Quick-Save\ C:\Games\Icewind Dale\mpsave\000000003-beginings\ C:\Games\Icewind Dale\mpsave\000000004-voyage to kuldahar\ etc. etc. Simply copy the whole directory accros for the game that you want (eg - 000000004-voyage to kuldahar) to the 'mpsave' directory on the new computer - that should work fine! I'm at home right now and trust me the folder that contains the saved game folders is called mpsave.
You are right, though, you have to take the entire saved game folder - if you just dump the components of the folder it won't recognize it. |
Alrighty, I'll give a swing tonight when I get home. Thanks for the help all!

Wait you might not need to do that much work. If you did not do a full install the save games stay on the disk...right it worked for me when i put the disk in a different computer my games where there because the full install puts all the files on your computer instead of on the disk.
