OK, here's another newbe to IWD with a very basic question.

I've been out of the game playing mode since the old AOL NWN folded. I had spent many happy years wondering NWN as a Ranger/Mage having participated since 1.0. But all good things must pass sooner or later I guess. Things have certainly changed since then!

Anyway, on to my question. How do you open the broken door in Easthaven?

I take it this the one were the guy ask you to rid the wolf from his shop.

If so than you can use a thief to pick the lock, or have a high strength fighter bash it down.

I had to skip this quest on my last game because I did not have a theif, a mage that was able to cast "knock", or a strong enough fighter. I think at least 18 strength is required for bashing.

If this is not the door you are refering to I will need more details.

That's the door I had in mind.

I guess I just haven't figured out the interface well enough yet. I have a fighter with str 18 but couldn't figure out how to get him to attack the door. I also have a thief (actually a fighter/thief) but again I couldn't figure out how to get him to pick the lock.

*To bash it down, select whomever you want to it with and then right-click on the sword icon on the bottom of the screen. I should highlight. Then simply drag the cursor over the door and click on it. To select the sword icon you could also press the appropiate hot key ( F3 I think.)

*To pick the lock, select your thief, press the thieving button ( the one that looks like a mask) and then drag the cursor over to the door and click on it. If it doesn't open try again a couple of times and if that don't work your thief skills are too low.

To attack the door
"Select your fighter"

There should be a little button at the bottom that looks like a sword, select it and then place your cursor over the door. Click the door to have your fighter try to force it open.

When you select your Thief There are 3 special buttons, A face (Hide in Shadows), what looks like a Zorro mask (pic locks, pick pocket), one that has 4 corners (find, disarm traps). When you select the mask if you place your cursor over the door it should look like a lock. Click the door and it should open if your lock picking skills are high enough. Each different member of your party will have different special buttons.

You have probably figured out some of this by now.

One tip is the spacebar pauses combat/game to allow you to give commands to your individual characters.
