As I solo through the game with my Fighter/Illusionist a couple of odd things have come to light:

I found the "Charged Battle Axe" in the Forgotten Temple, the first time I've had this random item. (I think it is re-located in HOW) It's quite a nice item, but it would be even better if it worked properly. Whenever the '15% chance to stun the opponent' comes up I get the message "...target... stunned" but the enemy carries on fighting. Why?

One thing that made me laugh was the tactics used by a pair of Lizardman Shamen. The first caught me with a Hold Person, which is bad news for a solo adventurer, but his stupid accomplice cast Dispel Magic - now those two won't get a second chance to work on their teamwork.

And finally I had a problem with the Trolls gaurding the Priestess of Ilmater in the Dragons Eye. I ran out of fire spells and potions with just one Troll remaining and needed to rest to regain my spells. Unfortunately when I slept for 8 hours (not attacked) I didn't get any spell refreshed. Eventually I trecked to another safe area to rest before returning to complete the job. Strange that resting for 8 hours didn't work - it's never done that before or since - might be something to do with that annoying, almost dead, Troll.

Just a guess on the charged battle axe: The "target .... stunned" message is an indication that you successfully rolled 15% or less but the target creature could be immune to stunning, or a magic resistance could have kicked in.

LOL @ the lizardmen .... What do you expect from reptiles????

Haven't seen the sleep / no spell restoration problem ever - not sure why it could have popped up. I AM surprised that the game let you rest with discovered monsters running loose. Usually it won't even let you rest if known monsters are around on the same map.

On the axe issue I guess that you tried it on those Verbeeg fellows and I´m quite certain those are immune against stun. I´ve tried the Hold spell as well and that don´t seem to work either. Or maybe there´s a save roll involved somewhere.

Lizard Shamans sure are stupid. :D They sometimes cast Dispel Magic at you even if you dón´t have anything dispellable on you.

The resting part seems like a one-time glitch. I´ve never experienced it.

Hmmm, could have sworn that Chromatic Orb was able to stun the Verbeegs - might be faulty memory though.

Chromatic Orb was my best spells in the Forgotten Temple, Dragons Eye, and Dorm's Deep. There is a saving throw envolved so it does not always work but if the first misses the second time it often works. At least I had a decent sucess rate.

I must have been mistaking Stun with Hold.

BTW my favourite spells in the Forgotten Temple was charm spells. I mean those Verbeeg never saved against it. I had an entire army of those brutish giants at my disposal.

Verbeegs will ALWAYS save against Hold Person NOT because of innate protections, but because Hold Person will only work against humanoids that are MAN-sized or smaller. Hold MONSTER will have a chance to work on them because no such size restriction exists.

Thanks for the comments guys, I've been away for a couple of days and just got around to checking the Forum. I'm still not sure about my Axe, I used it for a couple of areas in the Dragon's Eye and still couldn't stun anything, but now I've got "Defender" 'cos I need the extra AC. I wish I'd thought of Charming the Verbeegs, I usually use it a lot when soloing but in IWD such a lot of the bad guys seem to be immune.

If my earlier posting was for unexpected happenings then today's is about something crazy. I had reached the end of Dragon's Eye and was preparing for the big battle. I was in the last room on the right, with the High Priest I think, when the program suffered a glitch - my character set off by himself, walked through the wall, through the final chamber and then clean off the map. He reappeared back on the map by the start of the level and the game continued from there. Very strange! Still I continued on to overcome Yxunomei at the first attempt, so no complaints there. Now if only I could find a way to carry all the gear I've picked up, I'd be well set for the next challenge.
