This is my own fault really, but I had to use the forum for release of the sheer anguish that I'm currently feeling for losing just over an hour of going through the Frost Giant caves and then the Yeti cave next to it.
I was picking off the trolls one by one and saving it when unbeknownst to me, (don't ask how!) my thief, Murk keeled over. I'm very loathe to raise dead usually, but I just happened to haver a raise dead scroll and decided to use it rather than reload (there's no autosave between the two caves) and have to do both caves again. Anyhow, after I raised him - I saved it and tried to rest - in vain!! Monsters struck with cold abandon! The annoying thing was, I tried to reload in the hope that I'd just rest again (manipulating the game too much?) but as it turns out, my thief was dead again! I always thought raise dead spells were permanant! Anyone else have a similar drama like this? In the end, I've jot gone back to Kuldahar to get him properly rebirthed. Shouldn't affect CON like it does in the old school D&D stuff! I remember a cleric mage of mine having a con of 9 by the time I'd first finished it! Cheers, CerebroDragon ---+UDIC+--- |
It does sound like a bug.
But I can answer a few questions. 1. there's no autosave between the two caves because if you look at your map they are actually the same map. 2. CON isn't affected in the game when you die. |
Just one really important thing you gotta remember to do is to go down past the skeleton of the wyrm to fight that mage person - they have that really sweet ring that doubles all your first and second level mage spells. In my first run through i missed it. Imagine how angry i was when i found it on my second game... i think they have ottilukes freezing sphere as well....a must have for fighting salamanders!
BTW, look out for the nasty fighty dudes the mage has with him.....try and take him out from range, cos i thought i he was by himself so when i killed him i sent my mage to loot his corpse...big mistake.... :( Just thought i'd mention it... what i dont like is that you have to ress them at their bodies, so if your healer isnt standing close enough.. spell wasted :(
this actually fits role playing more, but after playing bg 2 for so long it sucks haha |
Remember when playing IWD and HoW you cannot raise Elves with raise dead, they can only be ressurected. Protect you elves

Not too far to go now before I try HOW - Yipeee!
I've made a fairly chaotic path through Lower Dorn's Deep, and have accumulated five badges done in this order: Krilag, Joril, Kerish, Perdiem and most recently Marketh. How do the majority of folk treat this quivering piece of slime when he begs for his life? Is there any extra xp in letting him go to his dark elf mistress? With a paladin in the party, I felt it was justifiably 'righteous' to slaughter Marketh in cold blood. (he didn't get a hit in!) That leaves one more, the mage Malavon if memory serves me correctly. I remember this battle being a little difficult last time - Iron Golems, no? hmmm....uh oh, I think I've sold that hammer that Conlan gives you early on...this could get a little dicey!
