Haha (just returning from a good game of BG-1), this one is fun, something went wrong when viconia asked me to save her. the flaming fist mercenary didn't show up, so i talked to viconia again, and she'd walked away... when i walked on the flaming fist mercenary did show up, and 'Biff The Understudy' now replaced viconia, so i saved biff, and haha he was just a poor level 1 fighter with str/con/int etc all on '9' , and his portrait was a questionmarked head... haha never knew this in all those years of BG'ing.... hmmm hope it's not 'old' blah cliche news... (probably...)

Wow. Looks like a little bug to me. Maybe you weren't at the place where the Flaming Fist was triggered.

It isn't a 'real' bug

Biff the Understudy will appear to handle any 'nescesary' dialouges when the NPC, that should have them, have disappeared.

I have once encountered him in Baldur's Gate, when the child, who asks you to save his friend from the temple of Umberlee. He disappeared and Biff appeared to take the dialouge.

Sure, not a real bug, but a bit err... ... bug-like.

It's what caused Biff to appear, not his actual appearance, that was the bug. I think it's great that the BioWare guys wrote him in at all--somebody to step in & take up the slack when something screws up. I've seen him twice--once when I killed all the Zombies before entering Bassilus's sight range, and again when I killed someone in the T. Guild (possibly Nalen Darkwalk) when they were scripted to take part in a conversation later.

Biff appears to take over the dialogue from missing characters. Bioware did the same in Planescape: Torment. In this game, if something has to be said, but the character is (for some reason) not present, then the "Ubiquitous Zombie" appears, and takes over that character's dialogue. It's like a bug remedy.

the main thing i meant was that biff the understudy has been in my party... hehe all stats on 9 , how poor fun tho.... but i didn't want him to spoil my 100% in game experience points...
