I've encountered a (if I am to believe what I read and hear) rather common bug, and that's the spawning of the Flaming Fist in Baldur's Gate in chapter seven. I have about fifty Flaming Fist Enforcers surrounding me as I try and leave the Iron Throne building. It's making any further progression impossible, and driving me up the proverbial spout at the same time. Quite multi-talented, these bugs.

Anyway, does anyone know how I can fix this? I've tried the UK patch from Bioware but that only seems to have made it worse. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, so I'd greatly appreciate any help

If your only problem is the fact that they block your path then the simplest solution that comes to mind is a cheat, but most players don't like to cheat excessivly. Except that in this case the situation is preventing progression of the game. So my suggestion is to open the CLUAConsole and use the Cheats:Hans(); code which instantly teleports all selected characters to the mouse pointer location, and potentialy past the F.F. guards.

Another cheat (if that's the path you choose) is if you enable cheat keys, you can press ctrl+y and it will kill the selected creature. Just pause the game and ctrl+y all of the ff

smoot killing a flaming fist soldier is not always a truly wise thing to do. Besides as far as I can recall those particular cheats only work in BG2 though I would like you to correct me if I am wrong.

I, too, have never heard of the Ctrl-Y cheats being valid in BG1. I've never had to use Hans, myself, as the MoveToAre cheat has been sufficent for my own rare cheat-my-way-around-a-bug episodes.

Of course, for puritans, there's always the option of doing all of Chapter 7 from the sewers--you don't even have to walk out of the Iron Throne building.

Thanks people

I'd like to try CLUA-ing myself to the other places, I don't see that as cheating as I've only got a couple of places more to go in the game and they're all in Baldur's Gate.

How do I do it, though? I have the area codes needed, I'm just not sure how to call up the CLUA console :(

Go to the baldur.ini file, and find the section "[Game Options] and insert the line "Cheats=1". Then save the file, and run the game.

And once you've got the Cheats enabled, just go into the game, and open the console by hitting Alt-Space, or maybe it was Ctrl-Tab, or something. It's been a while for me. I know a combination of those 4 keys is what does it, and it's not Alt-Tab.

Then, just say
CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("ARxxxx");
I'm not sure if you need the semicolon.

It's Ctrl-Tab.
You don't need the semicolon, but you do need the quotation marks within the parentheses.
Another way to "teleport" (if you have cheats enabled) is to use Ctrl-J.
You will need to enable the cheat keys from within the game apart from modifying the *.ini file.
Within the game, call up the console (Ctrl-Tab) and type
CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys()
exactly as I've written here.
